Most poetry collections seem to follow a singular theme of either soaring bright imagery or the depressing darkness of bitter loss. Ruin My Lipstick follows neither.
I enjoyed Miss O’Brien’s poems immensely because she chose to write the way lives are lived, in bursts of brilliant sun interspersed with countless shades of gray. From the twirl of a yellow dress dancing in sunlight to the shadowed questioning of a dark night sky, Ruin My Lipstick delivers a vivid portrait of a heart well traveled and a life lived fully.
